Has anyone visited Orr Hot Springs recently? There is a voicemail recording which states that there is construction on the baths. Anyone know what is going on?

Re: Orr closed for renovation?
Thu, October 12, 2006 - 4:10 PMAs told by a friend that works there, the bath house in under renovation and will reopen in November. I just hope that the charm of the old bath houses will still linger, just cleaned up and painted with new windows. It took a while to get used to the new sauna because of the the charm of the orginal. It's still the best place in the world to be.

redwood tub going away (heavy sobs)
Fri, October 20, 2006 - 12:54 PMhey todd;
so - like a ninny - i tromped off to pt reyes (from ventura) to visit friends - and see bob dylan play at the bill graham, and then, without calling first, i pointed the vehicle north, towards orr (when i was supposed to be following a southerly route home) . the hubby and i are regulars there - but my friend, jan, had never been - so.....
as i entered hopland i rang them up (it was tuesday night in the off season after all) and inquired about a yurt.
while parked at the solar living institute (another place near and dear to my heart) i chatted awhile with a very chatty member of the staff, who told me the following good and bad news:
1)they will re-open Nov 3rd-ish
2) they have totally removed the bathhouse - and replaced it with another in the same footprint (when i asked about style he answered with size)
3) the main redwood tub is soon to be history - won't pass county health inspections for keeping clean (heavy sobbing here) but...
4) said redwood tub is temporarily hanging out by the pool, filled - for last goodbyes - until sometime circa february which is when the contractor "says" that the new tub will be finished.
5) other major repairs have been made (roofing, foundation, plumbing, etc...)
i love the place just as it was - so i'm hoping that it's not too compromised (hoping, hoping, hoping) and -- i am making plans for the hub and myself to say our goodbyes to our old, velvety, deep, lovely, redwood friend.
so, jan and i stayed at vichy. uhg. chlorinated republicans.
fizzzy water was kinda-cool, -- though the only water above 90 degrees smells heavily of bleach - and the cute little swinsuit policeperson makes her rounds regularly -- with vigor. double uhg. i should have known better, shame on me.
also - shame on me for not dropping by orr to check out the renovations - but it was late, and i didn't want to drive that wonderfully curvy road twice. shame on me.
cheers,
jacquie
ps - dylan concert was incredible -

just got back from orr
Mon, November 20, 2006 - 10:30 PMand it's still under major restoration/renovation.....new bathhouse (with indiv tubs, much like the old area....but with floor to be heated by water!) not to open til feb. at least....
they are doing rooms for $100 a nite til renovations are done.
no work was going on in 2 days we were there, so no big deal.
the redwood tub is cooler in general now, and is located by the big pool, as is another, new plastic tub between the sauna and steam room (which wasn't working).
i treasure the indiv bath rooms with tubs, so i look fwd to their return, but the present setup definitely works, esp at discounted prices!
enjoy!!
