Re: Favorite stops along the way?
Mon, May 21, 2007 - 9:59 AMNot for shopping or lunch, but Montgomery Woods is a great place to visit when going to Orr. It's just down the road a bit from the hot springs and there are some nice peaceful trails to walk along.

Mon, May 21, 2007 - 1:01 PMHopland has the Bluebird Cafe, and Mendocino Brewing Co. Both are excellent.
There's also the Solar Living Institute, which is cool.

Wed, May 30, 2007 - 2:28 PMThe rock shop is awesome! I've only stopped there once but it's a nice place to visit and see some really interesting stones and crystals. The owner seems like a really nice guy too. -

The Solar Living Institute *is* amazing. I love the Real Goods store.
And the Rock Shop is a great suggestion. Will definitely plan on checking that out.

Thu, May 31, 2007 - 11:01 PMoh, and yes, yes!
ALWAYS Montgomery Woods... :)
The only problem is... the trail is too short! Though I suppose I could always blaze my own.

Wed, June 13, 2007 - 9:50 AMTemple of Ten Thousand Buddhas! Take Talmadge exit off of 101 in Ukiah. Go east about two miles. You can't miss it. They have a terrific vegan restaurant too. -

Re: Favorite stops along the way?
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 11:00 PMnot exactly sure if its on the way, or not, it might have just been close enough to drive to orr from....i wasnt driving so i dont recall the route.
anyhoo,
i like the lil town of willits. 101 passes through it, you go under a big arch that says "willits - gateway to the redwoods" (love that arch)
its a cute lil town with a yummy burrito place, a nice pub with a patio, and a few cute shops. been going to willits in the summertime for years on the way to private events at 'Camp and Sons'. if you eat at the burrito place, theres a lil patio in the back where you can sit and eat . their burritos are yummers and so are the smoothies. and take a look around, if you should see a friendly black and white cat hangin out, say hello to "crook" - he's a sweetie!
just about a block away from the burrito place you'll see a tattoo shop "soul tattoo". stephen;s a great tattoo artist, if you can catch him there. he has odd hours. and right next door is a cute lil store with pretty hippie dresses and tops and belly dancer-ish clothing. i would buy the entire store if i could. hehe
also nearby is the eel river. which is nice to swim in too. swim with little fishies and also swing on the rope swing and cannonball into the water below.
yay mendocino! -

Re: Favorite stops along the way?
Wed, October 17, 2007 - 8:04 PMwillits is north of ukiah a bit......but i guess on the way if one is coming from the north!
wanted to mention this dope taqueria in healdsburg, which i must look up the name of (i have the menu in my car).....most awesome mexican food of all dimensions. i went with about 12 friends and we were all blown away. didn't eat the carne asada but some of our crew said the tacos with it were insane.
i was just at orr last weekend and drove home via the coast, which took a whopping 5.5 hours (vs 2.5 on 101) to get home. recommended for scenery, great beaches on the way though it was foggy and cool when i got out there (almost 80 degrees at orr!)
orr rocks!! -
