I just went there last week and really enjoyed #6. It is to the left of the massage area and quite secluded. Only downside is that it is a tad bit far to the communal bathrooms.

I just returned from a weekend at Orr; first time I've been there during the winter. The walks between baths were sometimes excruciatingly cold, but it was nice once I was submerged in warm water 'neath the fierce winds and rain.

Two rooms I would recommend is #17 (the largest one at the highest elevation -- I shared it with six other guys) and #16 (at the base of the staircase leading up to #17). Both are the most spacious of accomodations, and given the price ratio for all rooms, there's not much difference, and yet what you'd get with the aforementioned two is much more room. An added plus is that these rooms include private bathrooms.

I can't wait to return. The hike to Montgomery Grove is an added bonus. There is rooted the tallest tree in the world: Sequoia semperviren.

i've stayed in a variety of rooms there. if you don't need to house a gang - and don't care about a toilet in the room - try this: between the lodge and the massage room is a little detached cabin that is very very close to the (used-to-was) redwood gazebo tub. it's small - and very handy - due to it's proximity to the tubs, and the creek makes a delightful noise there.

the big rooms noel talks about have small kitchens in them - but i think the big communal kitchen is a great place - i wouldn't miss it for the world. the draw to the big rooms is their group accomodating size.

the rooms in the long house accross from the pool have toilets, sinks, and porches. cherry trees grow over them and the birds drop fruit on the roof in the moring - kind of a cool wake up call. however -- the walls between rooms are thin and uninsulated - so .... if you, or your partner are loud - your every moan will be heard. take that as you will - to each their own.

all the rooms are good - and you don't spend much time in the rooms - the grounds are too wonderful for that.

if you are alone - consider the bunk house near the bridge - where other people liven things up a bit - dorm style.

      smiles,
      jvw

i like 14 and 15 which are new-ish (not as new as the new yurts, which i do not particularly like) with own bath and porch, and i like the old yurt (#1).

btw speaking of that tallest tree in montgomery grove, allegedly a taller tree has been found recently somwhere in the south pacific i do believe.

See my update under "Construction" for visit info last week.
Room #6 is not rented at moment since workers are storing tools in it.
The Mrs liked room #5 under the kitchen over the creek.

Since rates are now by number of people, and don't vary with room size
or room layout you might as well go with one with a bathroom.

We now like rooms #7 to 10 which are close to the 2nd gate to the pools.
#10 is at the far end, #8,& #9 ar in the middle and #7 is at end closest to gate.

The yurts are fantastic... *Beautiful* blonde-golden wood, with sky lights, and they even have a pleasant fragrance about them-- perhaps from the wood..?... *very romantic* and cozy for sure. But then how it could it not be romantic when you go with a beautiful partner!?! ;)

And yes-- DO NOT miss Montgomery Woods... AMAZING. It is faerie mecca. hehe

Seems like they convereted the room with all the bunk beds into a private room. Anyone know whether this is permanent?

i gotta say, i don't like the new yurts at all....they are way too far from the baths, and seem like tract housing or something....

i like room 1, the old yurt, as one of the best....way more character than the new yurts, plus quite a bit closer to baths....

            just my 2 cents.

i love the top-most yurt. i think it's #21? it's the farthest away from the tubs, but it feels so private, and really, it's not that far. that's our first choice everytime...but i'm someone who'll take privacy over proximity any day of the week...

Yes-- that is the one I stayed in with my boyfriend at the time.
The privacy was *really* nice and we didn't mind the beautiful walk to the tubs.
