Re: construction..
Wed, March 14, 2007 - 1:27 PMThey expect construction to be complete around the 19th to 30th of April.
Hopefully sooner rather than later... I have a few friends from out of town I convinced to join us on the 21st, and I'll be disappointed if it's not in it's full glory. -

Re: construction..
Tue, March 20, 2007 - 7:19 PMso i was there this weekend, and it hadn't changed much since december, but to be honest, i kinda like the temporary set-up. miss the private tubs of course which is a drag, but it's nice to not have to walk far between tubs. it was beautiful though, the hills covered in daffodils, everything blooming and butterfies chillin by the pool. pretty sweet. so it was in another kind of 'full glory' you could say. -

Re: construction..
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 11:31 AMHi... I work at Orr as a massage practitioner. Right now Orr is open from Fri 10 a.m. through Monday 2 p.m. It is my understanding that Leslie (the owner) is planning on opening doors full time beginning early May even if the new bath house is not yet finished. On the weekends it is quiet, no workers then but they do work during the middle of the week. It's looking great. My personal hit on when the new bathhouse will be up and running is probably around May 15. And that is in my opinion an optimistic date. But miracles do happen. Hope to see you there. Paula -

Re: construction..
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 8:07 AMI was up there a couple weekends ago and I actually like the current layout better. There are two 'hot' tubs near the pool now. The old wooden tub is under a nice gazebo when you first walk up to the cold pool and the other tub is between the steam room and sauna. That tub is a regular hot tub that is just filled with water (if the jets worked, now that would be excellent, but I bet that would be fairly noisy so I can understand them being off). There is also a nice big wooden outdoor changing hut near the steam/sauna.
The new bathhouse and outdoor tubs in the ground look great! I can't wait to go back and enjoy the new facilities!
Cheers!

Re: construction..
Fri, June 22, 2007 - 8:32 PMGreetings from Maryland.
Orr Hot Springs appears to be open every day now. We just visited to check out the changes.
Trish and I were at Orr last weekend. where new construction was "almost completely done"
4 rooms behind the 2 outdoor showers are being finished off and all would be completely
done by June 20 (2 days ago) . One shower head didn't work but I fixed it for them! -Unscrewed
the head by hand and knocked sand and gravel out. Construction tools are stored in room #
6 (near old outside massage area ) so it's not rented. 2 of the four rooms will be for massage,
one will be for mud treatments & I forget what the 4th is. There is no dorm at this time -I hope it
returns as it is all some can afford for overnight rates. Showers were new a week ago.
The old building with the 5 bathtubs, the wood hot tub.a shower and the dorm was torn down and
replaced with a new building.
I kind of like the new building. It has: 5 rooms retaining the old tubs in about the same location,
a kind of small but long sundeck above them, 1 bathroom, 2 outdoor showers, 2 small outdoor pools
(one with a high roof cover), and the above listed 4 rooms. Soap (BYO) can be used in the showers!
It's odd around the large swimming pool. Old redwood tub is TEMPORARLY set at the entrance
and is too cold (90 deg F) large noisy fiberglass jacuzzi tub (103deg F) TEMPORARLY set next to
the sauna and a TEMPORARY hideously large IMHO ugly wood shed like building taking up half
of the grass area where people would sit or lay down- its to be removed soon -thanks goodness.
I'm no sure how this will all end up. One pool may go outside the gate to near the group building.
Overnight rates have increased about 50 % since we last visited 4 years ago.
part of this is the new rate structure. One person at $100 a night Thur thru Sun. Two persons are $150
reguardless of room). So we stayed in a more deluxe room. The 3 midweek days are about $20 less
Previously rustic rooms without a bathroom (eg 1-6) were discounted. but not now.
Camping seems high at $100 a night for 2.. Day visit rate is about the same at $24 a person.
Kitchen is still very clean and very well equipped, kudos.
Garden is still nice but deer got in and ate the Evening Primroses and other succulants) .
Watching Luna moths visiting this flower each evening had been amazing.

Re: construction..
Mon, January 14, 2008 - 3:53 PMI don't know. Didn't ask. They're very nice though, so I'm sure if you call the number, they'll give you all that info. 707.462.6277 If they don't answer, leave a message and they'll call you back pretty quickly.

Re: construction..
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 11:52 PMThis Monday, as I passed Greenfield on my way back home, was a near whiteout.
tracy, this is actually the best time of the year to be there. Especially if you like the contrast thing. It's like this total Scandinavian cannonball into a giant ice fishing hole cut through Lake Huron. I miss being part of that community at Orr. Trying to get there each Monday night might help.
Don't forget, work trades are always considered. Take care, Chris -

Re: construction..
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 12:22 AMNow that the construction/major renovations are done,
can anyone tell us what happened to the old wood hot tub, the temporary new jacuzzi tub
and the temporary wood shed building that were near the main pool a year ago.
Thanks in advance. -

Re: construction..
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 1:38 AMAs of this past Tuesday afternoon: Old Redwood tub is now next to the cold Pool and used as a transition. Temps that I recall were in low 90's. The jacuzzi was moved down to the Creek House and is for private use with that unit only. The wood shed has been moved over to the rose garden area and appears to be being used as a green house. More space for poolside sun bathers. Also a new fence and riverside garden border has been added next to #11 and the BBQ area. Car bridge construction has been finished as well. I happened to be driving back from a work retreat at Montgomery Woods and stopped in after a months absence. Hope this is a help. -

Re: construction..
Sat, June 7, 2008 - 9:35 PMThanks Pieguy.
Sounds like all the temporary stuff around the main pool has moved- Great- more space.
except the old redwood tub (mid 90's is a bit cold) which they have not
decided what to do with it.
Possible visit this Aug. -
-
PS...The Ole Redwood tub has been moved to the Rose garden area, last I heard...
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 11:30 PM...may end up as a Koi pond...not so sure it's people approved...not that it matters for an early am plunge :-)
We'll know for sure when the neighborhood stops smoking.

Re: construction..
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 6:56 PMHello, do you know if Orr has private facilities for a group you can rent out steam room, hot tub etc.?
I am trying to plan a retreat for some lady friends.
Thanks so much,

Re: construction..
Thu, May 29, 2008 - 12:04 PMobviously you should contact orr rather than this community, but....no, they do not offer private facilities. you can rent the whole place out if you're going large. -
-
Re: construction..
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 8:50 AMWe asked about private rental, and they said $5000 per day with a 2 day minimum. You can have up to 80 people. It actually works out to only 125$ per person. It could work for a retreat.
